Why Dog Prams Are a Game-Changer (Yes, Really!)

Let’s talk about dog prams. Yes, dog prams! You might have seen a few rolling around the neighbourhood or on your social feed and thought, Is that really necessary? But hear me out: these four-wheeled wonders are incredibly practical when on an outing or out for a long day, if your dog is recovering from surgery, slowing down in their golden years, or just isn’t built for long distances, a dog pram can open up a world of comfort and inclusion.

Here’s why I’m all for them:

🐾 1. Senior Dogs Can Still Enjoy the World

As dogs age, walks can become a little tougher on their joints, but that doesn’t mean they want to stay home. A pram allows your older pup to take in the sights, smells and sunshine without overexerting themselves. They get all the stimulation with none of the strain.

🐾 2. Recovery Doesn’t Mean Isolation

If your pup is recovering from surgery or injury, they still want to be with you, whether it’s a walk around the block, or a dog friendly café visit. A pram lets them come along for the ride while staying safe and supported.

🐾 3. Great for Small and Brachy breeds

Little legs work extra hard to keep up, and sometimes the walk home is just a bit too much. Brachy breeds can also tire easily. A dog pram means you can get to the dog park without walking and enjoy being there without over-doing it on the way. It means you can go on longer walks and you don’t have to carry your pup in your arms when they’ve had enough you can just pop them in and keep cruising.

🐾 4. Eases Anxiety in Busy Environments like dog friendly cafes

Some dogs find crowds, new places or noisy streets overwhelming. A pram offers them a safe little “den” on wheels, it's a familiar space where they can retreat and feel secure while still being part of the action.

🐾 5. Long Days

I recently had to take Marvin on a long day of work. He was modelling at a photography event in the morning and the afternoon and there wasn't enough time to go home and back between shoots, so we just went with a pram and he had a midday nap, safe and sound in his pram.

🐾 6. A Lifesaver in Sydney Traffic (and Transport)

We live in Sydney where parking can be a challenge and taxis and Uber drivers will often leave you standing on the side of the road. Some prams have detachable cradles that means your dog is still contained in the back seat and the frame can go in the boot if you do catch a ride. A pram also makes it so much easier to take public transport to your destination, the vet, or your favourite dog-friendly café. You can hop on a train, light rail, ferry or bus without juggling your dog and all their gear.  (Check for the changing rules on this one!)
