If you've been thinking about booking a professional dog portrait session in Sydney but aren't sure what's involved, this guide will walk you through exactly what to expect at Love Tails Photography, a boutique pet portrait studio in Hurlstone Park, Inner West Sydney.

Step 1: The initial conversation
Every Love Tails experience begins with a conversation — either a visit to the studio or a phone call with your photographer Cristal Cachia (me!) This is a chance to get to know each other, talk about your dog's personality and temperament, and make sure the session is designed around your dog's needs. There's no pressure, just a friendly chat.
Step 2: Your studio session
Your portrait session takes place in the Love Tails studio at Hurlstone Park — a relaxed, private, air-conditioned space just 10 minutes from Marrickville. Sessions last approximately one hour and accommodate your whole family. (Up to 5 people)
My approach is what I call 'posed candid': I places you and your dog in a flattering position, then let the real moments — the nuzzles, the gazes, the silly expressions — happen naturally. You can see the images on-screen as they're taken, so you always know how things are going.
Love Tails welcomes dogs of all ages and temperaments, including senior dogs, anxious dogs, reactive dogs and high-energy puppies. I have extensive experience working with challenging dogs and knows how to get the best from every session.

Step 3: Your image reveal
Within a few days of your shoot, you'll be invited back for a private image reveal — a slideshow of your edited portraits, viewed together on the couch in the Love Tails Gallery. This is where you choose your favourite images and decide how you'd like them turned into artwork for your home.
Using a virtual interior design program,I'll show you exactly how your chosen portraits will look framed and hung in your own home, so you can order with complete confidence.
Step 4: Your artwork
Love Tails offers a range of artwork options including framed canvas prints, acrylic blocks, loose prints, designed albums, and full collection packages. All orders arrive ready to hang, with matching digital files included. A professional artwork hanging service is also available across the Sydney metro area.
Booking a session
Studio sessions at Love Tails start with a $195 booking fee, which covers up to two dogs and two people. Clients typically invest between $500 and $3,200 in artwork. Flexible payment options are available including Afterpay, PayPal Pay in 4, and interest-free finance so you don't have to wait until it's too late.
